NGO Activities
It is pathetic that there are numerous orphanages and old age homes in our society. Our visionary Managing Director yearns for extending a supporting to these needy persons. Also, he wanted to invoke the service mind of our students by encouraging visits to orphanages, old-age homes and homes for CP children (Children with Cerebral Palsy which causes physical disability in human development mainly in vital areas of body movement).
NGO activities bring out the hidden potentials of the young mind to service the needy people and make them a responsible citizen. They gain an exposure to the down trodden lifestyle which is the need of the hour for our country development.
Our college offers special lunge (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian with sweets, savouries and ice-creams) to all the inmates of the orphanages and old age homes. Students are provided with transport facilities to visit the homes on activity Saturdays. All the students from first year to final year, both U.G and P.G enthusiastically participated and mingled with inmates of home and spent the day time with them and shared their happiness. They also spent their pocket money in a useful manner by offering the needy things like rice bags, groceries, toys, clothes, pillows etc. for the inmates.

Reverse Osmosis
Reverse Osmosis is a technology that is used to remove a large majority of contaminants from water by pushing the water under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane. These are capable of removing up to 99% of the dissolved salts (ions), particles, colloids, organics, bacteria and pyrogens from the feed water.
There are two R.O. plants are in operation to cater the drinking water needs of all the students, staff members, supporting staff and the visitors. The raw water with an average total dissolved solid [TDS] of 750-1000 ppm is treated to reduce the TDS content to less than 100 ppm, the generally acceptable upper limit of the TDS. This is done in three stages, namely: Pre-treatment consists of sand filtration, coke treatment, and ion exchange; main process comprises 6 RO membrane filters held in parallel to each other, and post treatment. The maximum capacity of each plant is 1,500 litres per hour. This water is pure, tasty and hygienic rendering it highly suitable for human consumption. Our trained service technicians specialized in the operation and maintenance ensure high purity water and ensure that our water system is proactively being monitored and maintained.
This RO treated water is used for drinking purposes as well as cooking purposes. Coolers connected to this plant provides cold drinking water in every floor of class room blocks, administrative block, library, laboratories, hostels etc The rejected water from the treatment plants has been used for gardening and washing purposes. These plants not only facilitate the supply of safe drinking water but also obviate the otherwise involved huge expenditure for procuring drinking water for the large number of people in the campus. Now the institution can be liberal in the provision of our own made RO water.
Cleaning Material Formulation
Cleaning materials like soap oil, phenoil, dish wash and detergent liquid has been formulated to cater the sanitary needs of St.Josephs Group of Institutions .These materials are prepared by mixing different chemicals in different proportions. Our trained technicians specialized in the operation and maintenance ensure high quality materials and ensure that our products are proactively being monitored and maintained. Every month about 10,000 litres of floor cleaning, dish wash and phenoil has been supplied for the sanitary needs.
Working Model Event
Our Chemical Engineering department has consistently encouraging the students community to explore the engineering world through working model event. This event has been exclusively meant for III year undergraduate students to design the equipment for the given load/capacity as they are learning the core subjects such as Fluid mechanics, Heat transfer, Mass transfer and Process Equipment design. After making the equipment design, the fabrication of equipment will be made by students and the preliminary trials were made in order to ensure its workability.
Every semester, the working model events were conducted in the specialization of Heat exchangers, waste water treatment and mass transfer as the knowledge on these areas are very much required for working in different chemical as well as petrochemical industries.
The raw/feed materials of uniform nature will be provided to all the participants those who are attending the event and they should treat them using their model. The model producing best results will be decided by the panel of judges.
Membrane distillation
In our Chemcial Engineering department, Membrane distillation equipment was designed and fabricated. Membrane Distillation (MD) is a thermally-driven separation process, in which only vapour molecules transfer through a microporous hydrophobic membrane. The driving force in the MD process is the vapour pressure difference induced by the temperature difference across the hydrophobic membrane. This process has various applications, such as desalination, wastewater treatment and in the food industry.
