DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

ACCREDITATION

The department has been Accredited by the NBA of AICTE since 2007 with the recent renewal of the status being for 5 years.

ABOUT MECHANICAL

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in our college was established in the year 1998, with an annual intake of 40 students. 10 faculty members were discharging the duties then. The subsequent year the intake was increased to 60. The department had a phenomenal growth in the past decade. The annual intake has shot up to 180 students.NBA Accredited since 2007. A post-graduation programme has been initiated in Manufacturing Engineering with 18 students. Secured 106 university ranks since inception. There are 37 highly qualified faculty members imparting technological knowledge in to the student community, catering to the perpetual changes in the industrial sector. The presence of 13 PhD holders, of which 8 are research supervisors in the department having an average experience of about 10 years. This exemplifies the fact that the department is focused towards instilling an everlasting thirst in to the students to pursue a carrier in research and development.Recognized as a Research Centre by Anna University. The doctoral degree holders in the department are also guiding 27 research scholars in various fields and have 156 journal publications. We have also obtained 7 Research projects funded by Naval Research Board (NRB), Ministry of defence, AICTE and TNSCST worth of 59.72 lakhs.Co-ordinated 8 faculty development programmes funded by AICTE,DST SERB and Anna University(25.32 lakhs).Received RS.90,04,765/- funding for Research Projects, Faculty Development Programmes,Seminars & International Conference. We have 6 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with reputed industries. Conducted AICTE Sponsored International Conference. We have applied 3 Patents. The state of the art laboratory facilities in the department enable the students to innovate on the lines of their technical learning in the classroom. The students are motivated to organize symposiums and seminars to hone their organizing and leadership skills. There is motivation for the faculty members as well. The department helps and encourages the faculty members to take up research programs, on account of which almost all the staff members are doing their research. The department organizes the national conferences and workshops regularly. Such programs facilitate the faculty members to interact with eminent people from various fields within the engineering domain, to enhance their research interests. This in turn is of immense benefit to the students by way of knowledge transfer inside the class room. We have a couple of MODROBS projects, which helped us to equip technically in the Thermal engineering and Materials Testing Laboratories. The projects were funded by AICTE, New Delhi with a grant of Rs.21 lakhs. Our Department takes immense pride in being accredited by NBA for 5 years. The department motivates the students to take up innovative projects and guides them through. Several of the project works completed by the students got acclaimed and awarded. Three of the projects were awarded Best Innovative Projects by INAE (Indian National Academy of Engineering, New Delhi). Our students are well placed in reputed industries throughout the country and abroad. Many of the students are pursuing their higher studies in prestigious institutions in India and abroad (Singapore, Germany, Sweden, USA, UK etc.).
