ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning had its inception in the year 2021 with state-of-art research facilities and well qualified faculty members is committed to produce young aspiring Engineers. Ever since its origin,the department has consistently brought laurels to the college. There are 17 well qualified and dedicated faculties with 5 of them holding Doctoral degree from various reputed Universities adds highlight to our department. Our faculty members besides teaching are involved in many activities like continuing education, technical consultancy, research & development, coordinating professional bodies such as IEEE-CIS chapter etc.., The Department has signed MoU with various leading Industries for technical collaboration.

Students Corner
Industrial Visit
AML students visited Aeroknotz, Chennai, gaining hands-on experience with drone technology through expert interactions, live demonstrations, and practical insights into UAV applications.

AML students visited Seed for Safety, Chennai, gaining hands-on training in industrial safety, fire prevention, and emergency response, enhancing their understanding of workplace risk management.

NGO Visit 2024 - 2025
The students of II AIML B class visited *Karunai Ullangal* Old Age Home on January 25, 2025, as part of an NGO outreach initiative. Accompanied by faculty members, the students engaged in various activities, including interactive sessions, entertainment, and caring for the elderly residents. They also contributed by assisting in cleaning and sharing a meal with them. The visit was a heartwarming experience, fostering empathy and social responsibility among students while bringing joy to the elderly.

The students of II AIML B class visited *Sakthi Adharavu Illam* on January 25, 2025, as part of their NGO extension activity. The visit aimed to bring joy and support to the residents through various activities, including entertainment, interaction, and care. The students also engaged in cleaning and had lunch with the residents, fostering a sense of community and compassion. This initiative not only provided valuable assistance to the institution but also enriched the students' understanding of social responsibility.

AML students visited Day Spring Centre, where they interacted with the community and learned about the NGO’s efforts in education, child welfare, and social development. Through engaging activities and discussions, they gained insights into the challenges faced by underprivileged communities and the impact of social work, fostering a deeper sense of empathy and responsibility.

Value-Added Courses
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is committed to enhancing student learning through value-added courses that provide hands-on experience and industry-relevant knowledge. Recently, the department organized two specialized courses—one on Applied Machine Learning with Python and another on Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Conducted in collaboration with reputed organizations, these five-day courses equipped students with practical skills, enabling them to analyze data, create visualizations, and explore immersive technologies. With enthusiastic participation from students, these sessions bridged the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications, reinforcing the department’s dedication to academic excellence and professional development.

Sports Achievements
St. Joseph's College of Engineering has a distinguished legacy in sports, consistently excelling in various athletic arenas. The institution has clinched all major sporting events in Tamil Nadu, including the Anna University Inter Zonal Sports Championship and the Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering Sports (TIES). Notably, the college has successfully retained the TIES and Anna University Sports meet Trophy for the 13th consecutive year. The college's commitment to sports is evident in its extensive facilities and support for athletes. A dedicated 30-acre sports village allows students to practice as early as 4 a.m. and as late as 5 p.m. under floodlights. Athletes benefit from free hostel accommodations, sportswear, and gear, ensuring they are well-prepared for inter-university and other tournaments. This holistic support system has been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence.

AML Laboratory
The Department Laboratory houses 8 labs, including 3 dedicated to AML. The Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL) supports research with 60 advanced computers and dedicated servers. The Machine Learning Lab (CCL) fosters AI, NLP, and knowledge-based system research. The AI-Driven Animation Lab (AIAL) features high-performance workstations for creative projects. Our labs support programming and research in cloud computing, graphics, web tech, databases, data mining, networking, and OS. They also facilitate online aptitude tests during placements. As an AWS Academy-approved institution, we offer a cloud-computing curriculum that prepares students for industry-recognized certifications and in-demand careers.
